Today Style By Luxx is speaking to Amanda of a.p.b. designs behind her inspiration, the history behind the brand and her call to fashion.

Style By Luxx-How would you describe the style of a.p.b.designs?


I would describe a.p.b. designs as edgy yet sophisticated, with maybe a bit more edgy to it. Made for the business woman who’s a rock star at heart. Flirty, fun, with the perfect dose of sexy.


Style By Luxx-How did you know you had a calling in fashion?

I went to parochial school for 12 years, and was dying to express myself somehow. I received many demerits for my bright orange Chucks, bright-colored knee socks, and rolled-up uniform skirts…but it was well worth it.

I’m not an off-the-rack kind of gal; I always wanted to be the trendsetter. I didn’t want to be seen in the same dress as my twin sister or anyone else. I designed many of my homecoming and prom dresses, and drove my mom crazy trying to find the perfect orange sherbet silk chiffon…and then wearing flip flops with it.

Coming from a long line of seamstresses, I believe it’s in my blood. My great grandmother worked in the garment district in New York City (my mom still has boxes and tins of her trims and buttons), and my grandmother designed and created couture dresses for the “country club ladies” in the 1950s. She gave me my first sewing lesson, and I would spend every day after school at her house creating my costumes and dresses for school dances. I remember buying a perfectly beautiful red gown and altering it, adding black velvet details, and making it my own. I have my grandmother’s sewing machine in my work room.

And presently, my mom is the backbone of a.p.b. designs, working with me every step of the way. I could not have gotten anywhere without her.

Style By Luxx-Who is the girl or woman who wears a.p.b.?

Women who are confident and not afraid to stand –out in a way that others say, "Wow! Where did she get that?" I want every woman to feel like they can wear my line. I feel there is something for everyone’s individual taste and style. My designs fit all your ‘curves’ (like me), or your ‘tom boy’ figure (like my twin) 

Style By Luxx-If you could dress anyone who would it be?

Drew Barrymore. She’s classy, edgy, quirky, and not afraid to be herself. I think a.p.b. designs accentuates Drew’s personality perfectly.



Style By Luxx-What inspires your collections?

Random things that spark my fancy: Nature and anything that I can add leather accents or chains to that would look good with my Harley ;) A lot of my newer pieces (coming soon) were inspired by the beauty of nature…delicate and flirty, with a bit of leather.

Even Shark Week influenced some of my designs.

Oh yeah…and I LOVE butterflies.
