The Fashion Forward Way to Save

This will be the first installment of a partnership with Jax Styles Magazine to bring the latest fashion forward trends with the column, The Fashion Files with Style By Luxx to the Jacksonville metro area.
We all want to save a buck but don’t want to look like we did! There are so many ways to save on the latest fashions without breaking the bank.

Online Shopping-

Most people are afraid to commit to purchasing any clothing without trying it on first, but if you can get over the phobia, online shopping is a great tool in finding the best bargains. Say you seen the most adorable pair of Steve Madden pumps at the mall but you didn’t want to splurge on the $120 price tag? There are scores of websites which you can key in the brand and style names to find the exact item you are searching for! www.shopstyle.com, www.thefind.com www.shopping.com are some of the many websites which allow you to search for a specific item. Many online sites offer discounts or free shipping and returns, so really there is really no excuse for being able to commit to online shopping. Another great aspect of online shopping is getting designer clothing for less, there are flash sale websites which offer deep discounts on Gucci, Rock & Republic, Marc Jacobs, Versace, Tom Ford, Polo and much more, all you have to do is sign up and check back for sales, usually the websites will email you daily with a list of the flash sales scheduled. www.outnet.com, www.hautelook.com, www.beyondtherack.com are just a few which have designer sales marked up to 70% below retail. One specific site, www.shopittome.com allows you to pick the retail websites you would like to receive alerts from and gives you personalized alerts based on your size, selections and days you would like to receive email alerts, Shop it to me is almost like a personalized shopping saver. Make connections with your favorite stores on Twitter, Facebook and email you will receive special discounts, free shipping and invitation only events. Facebook and Twitter send their friends and followers all the goodies, so if you are not signed up you may miss out!

Vintage Shopping-

If you are like me, you want to have unique pieces no one will ever have. One way to accomplish that is with vintage shopping. Not only does vintage shopping offer exclusive looks, but it is much more affordable than buying brand new and it is great for the environment. There are several local shops, I frequent to find the rare and affordable goods! Fans & Stoves Antique Mall in Riverside has a treasure trove of jewelry, accessories and is now offering clothing. Found the headress and bracelets below at Fans & Stoves

Whitley Denise, www.whitleydenise.com is a local online based business, run by Chase Brown who offers the hottest selection of handpicked vintage for the modern woman.

Whitley Denise is always updating the inventory so check back often for the latest finds. Consignment shops and thrift stores offer some of the greatest deals but may require a bit more digging through the racks to find the gems but when you do the payoff is huge. I recently purchased a classic trench coat at the Goodwill for $10, after dry cleaning I spent a total of $20. I recently wore my trench coat to New York Fashion Week and was photographed by the paparazzi, cost of trench coat $20, feeling of being photographed in it, priceless! Trench I found below(c) model-Jana, photographer-John Kester, Hair-Alison Jones, Makeup-Erin

End of Season Shopping-

Buying clothes at the end of the season may seem like something your grandmother may do but you know what they say, with age comes wisdom. You might not want to think about sweaters in 80 degree weather but think about how much you could possibly save? 50 to 70 percent off? When fall rolls around and people are paying full price for the sweater you paid pennies for in the spring, you will rejoice. I have found countless deals on shoes, dresses and accessories at stores that carry BCBG, Tadashi Shoji, True Religion, And Calvin Klein, when I purchased them at the end of a season. My only advice would be to stay classic with your choices, do not buy something too trendy which will only last one season. The end of a season signifies the department stores are making way for new inventory so why not make the most of their loss by making it your gain, in your closet and wallet.

All of these tips are self practiced and I hardly ever pay full price for an item if I can help it. If you love clothes, shoes, purses and accessories half as much as I do, you have to find ways to feed your fashion addiction at an affordable price
